About the file formats

The books are available from this site in ASCII text, PDF and Microsoft Word formats. Links to the files are at the bottom of the page for each book.

Plain ASCII text is readable by almost any computer system. A simple markup convention is used to indicate italics and accented characters; you will find an explanation in each plain-text ebook.

The PDF files are formatted to A4 size and are suitable for reading on a computer screen.

Microsoft Word format is readable by many other word-processors (such as OpenOffice.org Writer, Microsoft WordPad) and some text-editors (such as Apple TextEdit). It displays italics and accented characters, as well as layout information like paragraph indentation and centering.

ZIP files

Each file is in compressed (.zip) format, which is understood by all modern operating systems.

A zipped directory (folder) will appear wherever you have instructed your browser to save it. Just click (or double-click) on the zipped directory and it will open to reveal your ebook/s, which can then be dragged and dropped in the usual way.

I recommend that you also download a plain text version from this site if you decide you want a permanent copy of any particular book. Formats may change, but ASCII will always be with us.

And I strongly recommend that you subscribe to my blog feed. It's free, and will keep you informed of new work and of progress in this publishing experiment. New posts are not too frequent, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

If the idea of shareware, "Free-to-Copy" ebooks appeals to you, please let at least two of your friends know about this site. As an independent author I do not know how else to spread the word without repugnant and intrusive activity like spamming. Your help will be very greatly appreciated.
